Ultra Low Emission Zones (ULEZ) - the rules

Starting from the 8th April 2019 vehicles must meet a certain emissions standard in order to travel in the Ultra-low Emissions criteria (also known as ULEZ) otherwise charges apply.

The meaning behind the new regulation is based on preventing the increase of pollution across the nation.

The new law clearly states what requirements fall into each bracket:

  • Petrol Cars, Vans and Minibuses must be Euro 4.
  • Diesel Cars, Vans and Minibuses must be Euro 6.

Vehicles which don't meet the criteria for Euro 4 and 6 will face a consequence of taking action by local authorities or paying the daily fee.

All of the cars we have selected to display on our Minicab 0% page meet the above emission requirements.

ULEZ Start Date: 8th April 2019

Location: Central London is essentially the starting point where the new regulation will begin. In the future to come it will eventually begin to expand further for all vehicles.

Emissions Criteria: For a Euro 6 vehicle it must be younger than four years old when it's been implemented in 2019 and for a Euro 4 it must be at least 12 years old in the upcoming year of 2019.

When it applies: The new regulation will occur 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and for 365 days a year. This is so it becomes a part of every day life and eventually reducing the amount of pollution.

Fees you could be charged: £12.50 is a daily requirement for vehicles that don't match up to the desired requirements and £100 for larger vehicles such as: busses, lorries and coaches.

Exemptions: A 'sunset period' will be implemented and adapted for disability needs before the new regulation comes into effect.
